It is necessary to perform some of the tests on the wife and the husband before any treatment is started. The doctor will decide which tests are most appropriate in your case.
If any of these tests have been done elsewhere very recently, please bring the results with you so that we do not have to repeat them again.
It may be necessary to check the tubal patency in some cases by laparoscopy. A hysterosalpingogram (X-ray of the tubes) may not be satisfactory as it is only the shadow of the tubes that are seen in the X-ray. However by laparoscopy the uterus, the ovaries and the fallopian tubes can be seen through the telescope by direct vision. And more importantly the tubal fimbriae and the adhesions between the tubes and the ovaries can be seen which is not possible by other methods.
If the problem is, recurrent early pregnancy loss or failure to get pregnant after repeated IVF attempts, then a hysteroscopy (a telescopic examination of the cavity of the uterus) may be necessary. The doctor will discuss this with you.
